1965 unfolded a new horizon among the Spanish Dominican fathers with the founding of an exclusive school for boys. It was built on a beautifully landscaped three-hectare lot at 183 F. Blumentritt St, San Juan, Metro Manila. It was named after the brilliant saint, St. Thomas Aquinas also considered the patron saint of all catholic schools.

Like all Dominican institutions in the Philippines, Aquinas School has as its main concern the total formation of its students: the harmonious development of its physical, intellectual and moral endowment to the utmost of their capabilities, preparing them for a mature life in freedom and responsibility.

In 1969, the government extended full recognition of the school’s complete Elementary and High School courses. In 1976, Aquinas School was allowed to operate a co-educational Nursery School. It was at that time when the Kindergarten-Preparatory classes, which had been in existence since 1965, moved to a new site within the campus equipped with bigger and modern facilities. In 1977, a multi-purpose building was added which houses the Science, Computer and Speech Laboratories, the CAT, Outreach, Parents’ Council offices, the Guidance Center and the gymnasium to better serve its growing population. During its silver anniversary in 1990, the new administration building and the covered gallery and shelters were constructed to meet the expanding requirements of operation. In 1977, the auditorium came into existence where the fitness and recreation centers and function hail are located. The football field serves as avenues where the students can play games of boys’ interest. At present, the well-equipped school libraries are designed to confront the challenges posed by the very demanding world.

The religious atmosphere provided by the centuries old Sanctuario del Santo Cristo and the Dominican Priory of the Holy Cross contribute significantly to the moral and spiritual growth of Aquinas students.

Aquinas School has its own seal which embodies the goals and mission of the institution. The seal of Aquinas is surrounded by a circle which symbolizes the completeness of a holistic educational process.

Inside the circle is a heraldic seal of the Dominican Order (Aquinas being a Dominican School) in black and white. White stands for purity and clarity, which comes from knowledge and wisdom, and black stands for the dedication, effort and discipline, necessary in all human activity but, above all, in the field of education.

Within the Dominican seal there is a symbolic representation of St. Thomas Aquinas (after whom the school is named and under whose protection it is placed).

St. Thomas the greatest theologian ever and a man of encyclopedic knowledge, is presented by the face encircled by a sun with its rays projecting warmth, light and energy. This has been the role of St. Thomas in the history of education throughout the centuries as patron saint of Catholic Schools.

This, too, is the role Aquinian graduates are called upon to play in society; irradiating the warmth of charity and love by being concerned with the welfare of others, as Christian and Filipino citizens; projecting the light of sound principles and values by being effective and reliable leaders; setting in motion the power necessary for the betterment of society by holding dear to them the altruistic goals of education.

Guided by this vision Aquinas School will become one of the leading centers for basic education that will prepare the young for continuous learning through the:

  • Implementation of well-designed Information Technology-based, value-oriented and student-centered curriculum by competent Christian professionals

  • Provision of up-to-date, adequate and functional services and facilities

  • Meaningful collaboration between and among members of the Aquinian community

Aquinas School is a Dominican educational institution established for the holistic formation of the young to become men of truth and compassion through a Gospel-centered education in an environment inspired by:

  • Truth, justice, joy and compassion

  • Filial devotion to the Mother of God

  • Sense of nationalism

  • Concern for nature and the environment

Anchored on the Thomistic Philosophy of Education, Aquinas School adheres to the belief that a worthwhile education is achieved only by contextualizing to the students the life-long learning processes within the framework of logical and critical reasoning. Logic is the basis to unfold the truth in the different disciplines and is coupled with a strong belief in religious faith which is essential to achieve everlasting life with God (Bourke, 1960).

This mental process, by which personal knowledge adjusts to the objective reality of things, will produce self-developed and mature persons, guided by values that will make them Godly, Patriotic, Humanitarian and Nature-Loving individuals.
